'SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE' leads at British Awards


Low-budget Indian drama Slumdog Millionaire garnered 11 nominations at the Orange British Academy Film Awards (Bafta) yesterday, building on its success at the Golden Globes and giving it a further boost ahead of the Oscars next month.

It was tied at the top with The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, starring Brad Pitt, followed by Batman blockbuster The Dark Knight which won nine nominations and Clint Eastwood's drma Changeling, which won eight.

Frost/ Nixon has six nominations, The Reader five and In Bruges, Milk and Revolutionary Road have four apiece.

Slumdog, about a young man from the slums of Mumbai goes in search of wealth and love on a television game show, let the field at the Golden Globes in the US this month.
